Simple calculations?

Brave volunteers Lucy, Alex and Daniel stepped up to the front to answer some ‘simple’ maths calculations. Although, they weren’t as simple as we all first expected. Here are the questions that we had to answer:

1) 8 + 5 = 313

2) 5 + 2 = 37

3) 10 + 6 = 416

4) 7 + 6 = 113

5) 9 + 8 = 117

If you haven’t already realised how to get this we shall now explain.

9 + 8 = 17

9 – 8 = 1

So the answer is – then + which equals,

1 17 which is

117

  1. Confusing; but clever.
