Sports Assembly

On Friday morning we had a brilliant, jam-packed sports assembly with awards and personal bests galore. We began with awarding Theo his spelling bee award, next we covered Sports Hall Athletics at Green Towers (Hinckley). We brought twenty children, half the children began inside while the other half started outside. Well done to our team.

We then talked about Prestwold Hall where some brave children got out of bed on an extremely muddy Saturday morning to run around a field and they did very well.

We then did dodgeball. Year 3 and 4 won all their games and Year 5 and 6 came 2nd.

In football the Year 5 boys competed in the Rice Bowl 2nd round. Unfortunately, they were knocked out.

In the Parallel Sports Hall Athletics, our school competed in the Javelin Throw and many other activities.

Santa Day!

Last week, on Friday the 14th of December, the whole school had dressed up in their Christmas jumpers and Santa costumes.

There was a variety of interesting costumes and outfits.
Lily and Rhianna went around the school and had closer looks at them and took photos. Unfortunately, as it was Enterprise fortnight, the Santa activities weren’t carried out- the fair was that evening! Despite the fact, that we weren’t doing Santa activities, we all enjoyed making Christmas-themed products to sell at the Christmas fair.

Rhianna and Lily really enjoyed seeing the Christmas spirit brought to Millfield and the variety of costumes and the effort put into them. Look out for the Christmas fair report!

Christmas Card Competition

Today [Friday 14th December 2018] the winner of the Christmas card competition [held by MP Albert Costa] was announced. The winning card had a picture of Father Christmas and a sleigh with all eight reindeer in the moonlight, it was beautiful. The children who attend the art club all had the chance to win since they all got to make a card. Many other children in many different schools got to make a Christmas card as well. The lucky winner got an envelope from the ‘house of commons’ containing a certificate, a personal letter and a copy of her Christmas card.

Foundations Nativity

Excitedly, foundation stage have performed their nativity on ‘The first Christmas’. It was very interesting seeing the children acting out on that incredibly special night. They started off with singing a song to amaze the audience.

Once the song had finished, a magical angel came down to tell Mary the big news that she was going to have a baby! Mary and Joseph made their way to Bethlehem by following the bright star. As there was no place to stay, Mary had their bay in a stable. Many people came to visit and three wise men came and gave baby Jesus special gifts.

Everyone in the nativity performed really well and did a great job.

Enterprise efforts

Everlasting Enterprise efforts

Last week, 6FE have been making the products they needed to sell at the Christmas fair. They were making quality wreaths, log Santa's and wooden slice snowmen. They were working hard and made sure they were working up to standard.

Along with this, the 6FE class decided to have a head-on-head paper chains competition. They had half an hour to make the longest and strongest paper chain. After their time had run out, they went outside to measure the longest; any chains that broke off were excluded! The suspension was real and after lots of competitive talk, Miss Evans reached a decision. Gurkaran, Seb and Evan’s team won!

It was an amazing team effort and the children all worked hard. The competition was very close!

On to 6LD, working with Mrs Button’s class. They also had a paper chain competition and it was a tie between Eunice’s and Molly’s group! Throughout last week, they were also making gift tags and wooden Christmas tree decorations, paper bags were also a task to do.

“We had a lot of fun making these products!” quoted Molly, from 6LD. It sounded like they had much fun and their tasks were really challenging!

Enterprise Re-Investment and Advertisement

The first week of enterprise is now over. In this week every group has made a radio advert, a poster and did market research. These will be shown in Monday’s assembly with the posters and the business plans. Also advertisement has a cost. Each group has £75 for this. Some examples of this are a radio advert for £30 a black and white flyer for 25p and a colour one for 50p. As well as, this some groups re-invested by for example selling chocolate lollies, hot chocolate and marshmallow pops.

Week 1 of Enterprise

This fortnight is all about Mr Wood’s favourite time of year! It’s Enterprise!

In the first week of enterprise you need to have: created a business name, a logo and a slogan, decided what you’re selling,  created a radio advert (with a time of 30 seconds MAX.), made an advertisement poster; reinvest your £20 (£10 given to each class teacher in the assembly) and decided what they need for the next week. Each pair of classes need to have a group of people to present to the school what they’re doing.

This year’s theme is The Magic of the Season.

This year it’s different! Instead of working in your year groups, we are working with a different class, from a different year group! This happened unexpectedly!

Class 2SS were partnered with 4CD.

Class 1PS were partnered with 5AJ.

The Ladybirds were grouped with 6FE, The Butterflies and 5SP.

Class 3HC were partnered with 4JS.

Class 1RB were partnered with 3SS.

Class 6LD were partnered with 2SB.

Each class is also supplied with £75 for advertising – posters (you have to pay for each poster), radio advert and fliers (you have to pay for each flier).

The last thing is, GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Foundations Decision

Excitedly Enterprise has now started and they are looking forward to the weeks ahead. They are allied with 6FE and 5SP to create a welcoming company… The Cosy Christmas Company! They have decided on a slogan, logo and have now, on 6th November 2018, a radio advert.

It was a tough decision between Group 1: Parakram, Sam, Danilo, Oscar, Jude and Justina, and Group 2: Daisy, Patricija, Tanvi, Owen, Evan and Seb. Foundation had to vote between the 2 groups. The winner, it was very close…

                                                                                GROUP 1!

They have also been busy making marshmallow pops where you stick three marshmallows on a stick, drizzle it with chocolate and sprinkle sprinkles on top!

KS1 Nativity

For the last couple of weeks, the KS1 were learning their nativity. They have been trying really hard to learn all their lines and practice them. We are all excited about the performance and are looking forward to see them showing us the story of how baby Jesus was born.

The Prince William Award

A fortnight ago, on Friday, Mr Stu Rowley a specialist hosted an assembly with Mr Jordan’s class and some other children. This was about building children’s confidence and level of assurance within them. This is called the Prince William Award (PWA). They created a performance together and talked about British values.

They did a series of acts, such as: Simon says games-which makes them focus; their feelings, expressing themselves; teamwork ‘the floor is lava’ game, thinking before you do and explaining how they were building up their confidence.

During this time with PWA, the children have developed confidence and the skill of performing in front of people, and they have yet more work to come. The people involved were: Stu, the teacher; Oscar, Olivia, Savjot, Sam, Rio, Owen, Oliver, Lucy, Lucia, Lucas, Lovell, Louis, Lennon, Layla, Justina, Joe, John, Jade, Daniel, Daisy, Castell, Calum, Caitlin, Bethany, Edward, Declan, Parakram and Billy.

Animals

 Foundation stage’s new topic is…

ANIMALS!

They have been investigating on animals with pictures of all kinds of jungle creatures. They also have been painting animals and sticking pictures of their faces on them. Seeing as the nativity is coming up they have been practicing their parts for it.

Another thing they have been learning about are the five senses. They have got a mini wall with pictures of the nose, eyes, ears, mouth and fingers. Back to the animals they have got a table with fake grass, fake bushes and mini model animals.

Skipping Day

To start off the afternoon, a special skipping teacher came into the school to teach the sports leaders different techniques on skipping. They started off by doing 1 bounce skips consistently. To follow up, they did double bounce skips. Once this was mastered, they were shown how to skip with a burpee included. The final and most challenging task of the day was…. how to step skipping and swapping ropes with another partner.

This was taught to them so that they could teach the younger children, who play with them. ‘It was a lot of fun but some of them were challenging.’ Quoted by Eunice, Year 6.

It sounds like they had a great time and really enjoyed the challenges thrown at them!

Pyjama Day

On Friday the 30th November, our school (notably Yr5) organised a pyjama day to raise money for a children’s hospital. Children came to school in their pyjamas and brought a pound to do so; all the money went to the charity. We hope to raise a lot of money for this great cause.
