This week’s Whole School Assembly was quite different, but
in a good way. We had a special visitor- Reena from NSPCC (National
Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children). She had previously visited our
school a few years ago with their mascot Buddy, who is in the shape of a speech
bubble. We talked about how it’s better
to let your feelings out, and talk to others rather than bottle things inside.
After, there was a sack and a couple of bricks. The bricks were equivalent to a
child’s worries. We talked about all the worries a child could have and put the
bricks inside the sack. At the end, it was quite heavy! Reena told us we would
get back to the sack alter, so then we started talking about the 5 different
types of abuse. These were: Neglect, Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Sexual
Abuse and Bullying. After that, we went back to the sack. This time, we talked
about the different people we can tell our problems to. One by one, we emptied
the bricks as ‘we told our problems to another person’. Here are some different
people you could talk to: Teachers; Friends and Parents/Carers. We then talked about
how you could also talk to Child line (Phone Number: 0800 1111). After, Reena
set us a task. Over the half-term, we have to get sponsors to donate some money
towards the NSPCC. Whichever class that donates the most money, will get a
certificate. Reena told us that she would come back on the 26th of
February to collect the donations. We then watched a video about a real-life
experience of someone who called child-line.
